Road Running
Burton A C receives copies of entries for local and national road running events and these are available to all members. The club is also informed of many events that may be of interest to our members. The club organises major local road running events that are open to the public, as well as competing in road running leagues & competitions throughout the year.
Track and Field
Burton A C actively competes in numerous track and field leagues within the Midlands area for both sexes incorporating the U13, U15, Junior, Senior and Veteran age groups. The club supports open track and field meetings based at Shobnall, enabling coaches and athletes to evaluate pre/mid season performances.
Cross Country
Burton A C competes in the North Midlands cross country league during the winter months, and is actively involved in the Uttoxeter cross country attracting Olympic athletes as well as incorporating the club championships.
Coaching
The club provides qualified coaches to structure a training schedule based on individual requirements, whether for general fitness or a specialised schedule for a particular event. Specialised event clinics are organised throughout the year to inform the athlete and coach of various training methods. Also members wishing to progress to coaching status are given every assistance to achieve their goals.
Social Events
The club regularly holds social events that vary in format from a presentation evening where trophies are awarded for sporting achievement, to local competitions between rival clubs. In September the club holds a rounders match between junior and senior members which is followed by a BBQ.
Fitness for Fun
Burton A C can provide general training for anyone wishing to improve their fitness levels. From late October to mid March members utilise indoor gym circuit training at a local school to improve strength or tone muscles. Members are welcome to join in the various training sessions that occur each week.
Facilities
Burton A C is based at Shobnall Leisure Complex. This has an all weather synthetic 400m 8 lane floodlit international standard athletics track. It also includes 2 long/triple jump runways and sand pits, a pole vault runway, and a discus/ hammer cage. Whether a novice, club or international athlete, you will find all the modern facilities and equipment to suit your needs. The complex is situated within a wooded park area, providing an excellent base to train in pleasant surroundings.
Competition
Burton A C actively competes in various leagues throughout the year, covering a wide spectrum of disciplines from cross country. road running and track and field. The competitions also incorporate a wide range of age groups, so there is plenty of choice. The club gives every assistance to members wishing to progress into track and field officiating. You are given opportunities to build experience at track and field meetings.
